Understanding Corona-virus (COVID-19)

Dixon, Deyprie, Writer

Corona-virus disease(COVID-19) is a new novel respiratory illness, not fully understood by the Center of Disease and Control(CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and many brilliant scientists well-known for disease prevention and control. In late December 2019, COVID-19 was first found in people that ate from a seafood restaurant in Wuhan, China. Many people became very ill, most of the infected died from an unknown disease that was later named a corona-virus. These symptoms are very common in many corona-viruses with symptoms of bronchitis, pneumonia type respiratory illnesses, ranging from mild to severe with worse cases of death. By late January 2020, corona-virus was confirmed in the United States by public health officials and spreading rapidly. Because the virus is not yet understood, but it seems to spread to infected people very easily. Most people who have been infected are unsure of how or where they became infected. They had not visited out of the state or country, nor had they eaten seafood from Wuhan, China. This virus has been known to be the deadliest virus we have all encountered at this time.  The latest information from the CDC website states that we have entered a worldwide pandemic disease named Corona-virus disease 19, even though there are many corona-viruses like SARS and MARS, and many others, this disease is still unknown origin, there are no medications to treat the virus, no immunizations to prevent the virus, no one knows how the virus is spread. In the beginning, it was said those who were at risk were the ones who recently traveled to an area with the COVID-19 outbreak, had contact with a sick person who recently traveled to an area with a COVID-19 outbreak or who had contact with a person who was diagnosed with COVID-19. However, today the spread was rapidly spreading in all ways with no one knowing how they have become infected, and mass death in the United States and all over the world. Sending the CDC and the WHO scrambling for a cure vaccine or help to figure out this emerging infectious disease that has been plagued all over the world with deaths increasing. CDC stated that everyone should wear a mask, stand 6-feet apart from other people, do not gather in groups of more than 10 people, always wash your hands, wear gloves when out in public. The CDC advises that if you are sick, stay home, for mild cases supportive care is the treatment wait 3 days, if you still have symptoms, contact your primary care doctor for further instructions on how to care for yourself at home. For severe cases, emergency care should be implemented and you may need to stay in the hospital. This disease has shut down cities, schools, churches, casinos, restaurants, parks, golf courses, malls, amusement parks, and all non-essential businesses.  This disease has taken many lives and infected more with more people becoming infected and dying every day. The CDC  states that since there’s no vaccine or cure for this disease, people should not travel right now for any reason that is not urgent. Cruise ships were also not able to dock in states due to the ill aboard, and many died on the cruise ships.
