Once Upon A Runway

Fashion Forward is a fashion design challenge for high students in Clark County. This design competition is emulated after the TV show, “Project Runway.” This competition provides students who are in fashion design the opportunity to design their own creations.

Mrs. Vlaming’s fashion design students will be taking part in this year’s Fashion Forward. The students go through two rounds of competition before being chosen to have their garments come to life on the runway.

In the first round of the competition, every student is given the material and pattern to make the same exact dress in a size 8. Then, every student is assigned a theme. This year, the theme is Once Upon A Runway, so every student was assigned a fairytale. The students then had to come up with a design inspired by our given fairytale. The judges then critique the students sewing and design. That’s the end of round one.

Only a certain amount of contestants are chosen to move on to round two. In round two, they get to pick their fabric from Star Costume. Competitors are allowed 9 yards of material each. With that material, they make the designs they created in round 1. These students get to model or have their design be modeled on the runway on April 1st.

The fashion show will be held at the Palazzo on Saturday, April 1, 2017. General admission tickets are $25 and doors open at 12:30. The show begins at 1:00.
