The Vegas Golden Knights are Here

Exactly five months after the new NHL team was announced to be setting up shop in Las Vegas, a party unveiling the team’s name and logo was held outside T-Mobile Arena in Toshiba Plaza on Tuesday, November 22. At around 6:30 p.m., an hour after the event started, the screen outside the arena revealed the name to be… the Vegas Golden Knights!

Before the name and logo were released, Bill Foley, part owner of the Vegas Golden Knights, spoke to the crowd of over 5,000 that had gathered outside the arena and an adjacent parking garage, “We want our team to be known for dedication, honor, strength, courage, and a commitment to never give up – both on the ice and off.”

Foley also mentioned the other names that had been considered while making the decision, like Sidewinders and Nighthawks, but the Knights are held close to his heart.

“The Knights are the epitome of the warrior class. They’re team-oriented, they always stick together, they never give up, they never give in.”-Foley

The official team colors are gold, steel gray, black, and red. The logo includes a knight’s helmet that opens to form a ‘V’ for Vegas, and a secondary logo shows swords in the shape of the star from the world famous “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign.

Official merchandise featuring the newly unveiled logo was available to buy in the Plaza after the announcement was made, excluding the official team jerseys, which have not yet been released.

Player selections will not be made until June of 2017, through an expansion draft. One player from each of the other 30 NHL teams will be chosen to become a part of the Vegas Golden Knights.

The team will hit the ice for their first season in October of next year.
