2017-2018 CCSD Calendar

How would you like it if you had to start school fourteen days earlier?

As part of the new teacher contracts, the Clark County School District Board of Trustees has approved the early start calendar, which will take effect for the 2017-2018 school year have. The calendar includes the traditional 180 days of class instruction; however, it seeks to implement a mid-August start to the school year, as opposed to the traditional late August start.

Traditionally, classes would begin on August 28, 2017, and end within the first week of June.   However,  the early start date is set with classes beginning on August 14, 2017 and ending as early as May 22,  2018.

This allows for students to complete their 1st semester exams before Winter Break break, as opposed to taking their exams upon return.  Following the schedule, teachers would be able to finish their 2nd quarter lessons before going on break. For students, this would mean no more “Remembering what we did two weeks ago,” and two weeks full of stress and studying for exams over break.

The new calendar doesn’t just affect the students, it also affects the staff and administrators. Administrators are set to begin work on August 1, 2017, and teachers will start on August 9, 2017.
