What’s Going Around?

Recently, there’s been an outbreak of a disease known as the Measles. In the past month and a half, since December 28,121 cases of this disease have been reported in 17 states. It is said that this outbreak is linked to a multi-state outbreak from an amusement park, Disneyland, in California.

It is likely that the outbreak started from an infectious traveler going to the amusement park, but it’s not official that was the cause of the outbreak. 88 people were infected and it spread among others and lead to cases coming from Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Washington. It is a scary thought that this disease spread so fast. Studies show that most of the people who were infected were unvaccinated to prevent the Measles.

Almost two months into the new year and cases of the measles is catching up fast to the number of cases from 2014. 644 cases of the measles were reported last year. It’s definitely not normal that a quarter of last year’s cases have already passed in these last two months, because people are able to be vaccinated for the measles, less are likely to be infected. This doesn’t mean it is 100% sure you will not catch the disease, but it is better to be safer with the vaccination than sorry with the measles.
