Nationals 2014 063

East Career and Technical students as members of the Career and Technical Student Organization Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FFCLA) are so grateful to have had the opportunity to travel to San Antonio, Texas for the national competition and leadership conference. The students first had an opportunity to compete at the state level in March at The Quad Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. They then had to earn one of the highest medals at state to be invited to the national leadership competition. ECTA students qualified to go to nationals in every competition the group again. Eight students attending nationals were Brittany Berrelleza, Tashauna Stewart, Gabi Weis, Alice Weis, Rebecca Zahm, Cheyenne Mickelson, Casey Benner and Eboniee Rose. Five of the students were recent graduates. The students received gold, multiple silver medals and bronze medals while competing at the national level.

At the conference the students were able to attend huge national meetings and their smaller state meetings and explore the city surrounding them, including a visit to the Alamo. Tashauna Stewart remembered the the trip by stating, “It’s definitely an unforgettable experience.” Brittany Berrelleza also remarked, “The experience was amazing and the organization helped me grow as an individual. It was fun getting to meet new people from across the country.” ECTA FCCLA had an astounding time in Texas, and they are hoping for an invitation to the national meeting in 2015 in Washington D.C.

Sophomore student, Gabi Weis, was elected to a state FCCLA office last spring. She will be serving as Vice President of Community Service during the 2014-15 school year. So far on her new journey, she has had multiple public speaking events. She has taken on new challenges and plans to make this year a success as she balances officer duties, school work, her involvement in the ECTA FCCLA chapter and competitive bowling.
